A manufacturer of transmission and power components has reorganized its “heavy picking” area in the warehouse by creating a dedicated area for the multiple handling of items to be placed inside bins.
The use of hoists located in different locations has been completely dismantled and the hoists removed. They have optimized the logistics by grouping all the “heavy picking” in a single area where they have installed a bridge crane structure with overhead rails along which a manipulator arm of the Liftronic Easy series, version Overhead Arm, runs.
A single operator in a picking area can maintain productivity constant all day long with very little effort.
Logistics optimization also includes a reduction of the number of workers at the “heavy picking” area: from one for each position with a hoist to a single operator for the entire picking area.
The Manipulator arm that slides under overhead rails can be used in a very large area; moving the overhead manipulator arm horizontally requires a very light effort by the operator, thanks to the smooth sliding allowed by the aluminum rails. Vertical load movement is almost effortless thanks to the electronic control of the Lifronic series manipulator.
Using a hoist all day long was causing serious health issues for the operators; they were, in fact, suffering from carpal tunnel inflammation for having to keep a button pressed all the time for the up-down movements. Moreover, now they can handle the loads naturally with hands on the load (float mode) and move them easily as they were weightless.
Ergonomics for the operator has significantly improved, health issues relative to this work cycle solved and overall productivity has increased.
