Tradition and innovation: a winning sinergy

The Scaglia family  were skilled woodwork craftsmen (bobbins, button moulds); from the Imagna Valley they moved to Bembilla in the late 1700. Three generations later in 1868, one of them, Martino, moved to Milan. The main city of Lombardia at that time was the most important market in the whole Italian peninsula, as well as a rapidily growing economic and cultural centre. There in 1881 the Martino Scaglia enterprise was founded and Martino trained his two sons in his craftship: Stefano was put in charge of  production and Martino of  sales.

During the new century early  years, up to the beginning of the Great  War, the market of  wooden bobbins, spools and  pulleys kept growing, so Stefano returned to his home town, Brembilla,  and established  there a larger production unit in a new building,  that  was in the next years enlarged and renewed several times and today is still the seat of Scaglia group.

Since the beginning  innovation was the leading attitude of  Martino Scaglia who right away equipped the new workshop with machinery which were technology advanced for those days, and in 1911 he  registered the patent of a device that  doubled the lathe work speed.

Innovation attitude that popped up again even stronger after the Second World War, when a technology revolution started, which led to a real upheaval  of Scaglia's production materials and methods.

In the years '50 and '60 a worldwide salesnet was established which, for that time, was particularly wide, covering areas such as Russia, South America and Asia. In 1970 Scaglia started to diversify its product range and gave life to  different Departments dedicated to new  business areas; Scaglia Spa in the early  years 1980  started  to manufacture the electronic industrial manipulator Liftronic, today  produced by Scaglia Indeva spa. Today Scaglia Group is made of  three  Share Holding Companies  busy in three different product markets,  yet with the same innovation attitude still in common.
